Today I’m addressing a question from Pamela, which many of you can probably relate to: she wants to know how to get rid of her nagging craving for sweets.
The simple answer is this: you have to get rid of the sweets!
Trust me, I know that’s easier said than done. In fact, there’s nothing easy about it. Kicking a sugar hang-up is like any other addiction: you can’t just have a little bit of it, you have to stay away from it altogether.
What Sugar Does Inside Your Body
The reason you have such strong cravings for sweets is because you have a lot of sugar circulating in your system and your body is screaming out for more of it.
There can be a couple reasons for this. First and foremost, you might have some yeast or candida issues. Those microorganisms love sugar, and if either of these conditions have set up shop in your body, then they’re going to demand you give them more.
You have to starve them out.
The most obvious way to do this is to not eat any more sugar.
The second method is to overload your body with greens —green juices, green smoothies, green salads, or even superfood powders like our Energy Greens. This method works because when your body becomes more alkaline, it naturally decreases your desire for sugar.
I’m well aware that not everybody likes greens. If you don’t enjoy salads, dark greens or green juices, there’s a good chance it’s because your palate is “wired” in favor of sugar. With time and a diet purged of the sweet stuff, you can switch things around and start enjoying healthier foods.

Sweet but Not Sugary: A Quick Fix
A good way to help the transition along is to try our All-Day Energy Bars.
I always have one on me, and they really help when you have to kill a craving of any type. My wife Amy and I were inspired to develop these after a moment on a 24-hour road trip from Toronto to Florida that I’d rather not remember.
It was 9pm and we were just outside Atlanta. Our kids had been sleeping peacefully in the back seat for a few hours and were just starting to wake up. I knew what was coming next.
I don’t know if you have kids, but if you do, you’re well aware of this irrefutable truth: when they’re hungry, it’s not pretty. Before long, the screaming and the crying had started, and I had nothing to feed them. We were in a tight spot.
All of a sudden, I saw the Golden Arches in the distance.
Ordinarily, I drive by fast food restaurants without even noticing them, but for the first time in a long time, I found myself thinking about swinging through the drive-thru.
What else could I do? There was nothing else for miles around and my kids had reached atomic levels of misery in the backseat.
With a heavy heart, I conceded defeat and resorted to Happy Meals. Simply remembering that night is painful. It was a punishing defeat that left me with a new resolve to never find myself in that situation again.

As soon as we returned home, we started to formulate a bar that we felt completely comfortable giving to our children at any point in time. It’s packed with more than enough protein and fiber to fill you up and keep you going.
You might wonder why I’m pitching you on these bars when you’re trying to resolve your sugar cravings. It’s with good reason.
One of the primary ingredients in these bars is chicory root fiber. It’s a form of inulin, which is a prebiotic—food for your good bacteria. By keeping your good bacteria happy, you stave off the bad bacteria that gives you those awful sugar cravings.
That’s why I recommend these bars, particularly the Choco Coco flavor. It’s a blend of chocolate and coconut, and is great to reach for when you want a sweet fix.
Although it does contain some sugar—6 grams to be exact—it’s not a problem because the protein and fiber content is so high. They mitigate any kind of blood sugar response you might otherwise get.
Whatever you choose to do, just remember this: incorporating a great deal more greens (and water) into your diet will stop those sugar cravings.
