5 Home Remedies That Will Help You Get Softer Skin

5 Home Remedies That Will Help You Get Softer Skin

My children have incredibly soft skin – and I’m sure you’ve also noticed how silky-smooth young skin can feel.

And maybe you’ve observed that your own skin no longer feels this way.

You’re not alone: skin texture does change as we get older. There are reasons why that happens that have little to do with actual aging.

The good news is, we can do some things to turn that around. There are simple, inexpensive home remedies for soft skin that will help restore that silky texture.

I have 5 easy natural remedies that will make a big difference – quickly – in the state of your skin.

Home Remedies for Soft Skin

1.  Eliminate Allergenic Foods

Diet plays a huge role in the texture of your skin. Allergenic foods, especially, can cause skin to appear rough or uneven.

That’s why getting rid of potential allergens is your first, best plan of attack if you want softer skin.

The top two allergenic foods to eliminate are dairy and gluten.

The reason these foods are a problem when it comes to your skin is that they are inflammatory. When you’re creating inflammation in the body, your skin is going to respond with breakouts and other ailments.

For instance, if I eat bread, I get rosacea, which is redness around my nose.

If you ever see me with red skin around my nose, you’ll know I’ve eaten bread within the past day or two, it’s a tell-tale sign.

Another big culprit in skin breakouts is sugar, which is why I suggest eliminating it from your diet.

Sugar increases insulin levels in our blood. If we have too much insulin in our body, there’s a whole cascade of events that leads to a breakout in our skin, which is not a good thing.

2. Drink More Water

Staying hydrated with adequate water intake is really important. In fact, because our bodies are actually 70 percent water, it’s almost our lifeblood.

And if you notice that you’re not hydrated enough, it’s already too late.

If your lips are chapped, if your throat is dry, if your mouth feels dry, you’re already dehydrated.

Think about your skin as a raisin. When you put it in water, it plumps up.

To make raisins, they take grapes and suck all the water out of them, so they become these really wrinkled, shriveled, weird-looking things.

It’s the same thing with our skin. If you’re feeling thirsty, it might already be too late.

3. Get Your Greens

Greens are packed with nutrients that will nourish your skin.

Our Energy Greens powder is amazing; it tastes great and it contains the best-quality ingredients on the planet.

The reason greens powders are awesome is because they provide you with a myriad of alkalizing nutrients. It’s really important to keep your body slightly alkaline from an overall health perspective.

And in case you’re interested, these nutrients are the most important ones for the health of your skin.

Now if you don’t have a greens powder, no big deal (although I do recommend it). But one of the quickest – and most delicious – ways to get more leafy greens into your diet is with green smoothies. Here are a few easy recipes to get you started.

4. Moisturize Inside and Out with Coconut Oil

This is one of my favorite tips because it’s multi-purpose, and plus it feels great.

I no longer use moisturizers, even though we live in Toronto and it’s very cold and dry here in the winter.

Coconut oil is great for your skin, both as something to eat and something to put on your skin as a moisturizer.

Let’s say you come out of the shower and your skin is dry. All you have to do is slather it on your skin to lock in moisture.

You’re essentially feeding your skin amazing nutrients from the coconut oil, and it’s very hydrating and lubricating.

It keeps your skin amazingly healthy, as well as your internal body healthy if you eat it by the tablespoon or add it into any of your dishes, like I did in this Homemade Granola Cereal.

5. Exfoliate Your Skin

The final way to super-soft skin is to gently scrub it, or exfoliate. This also happens to be one of the best ways to detox your body naturally.

When you’re in the shower, you can use a dry brush or a loofah to get rid of dead skin cells.

Then when you step out of the shower, you can rub some coconut oil on your skin for even more skin-softening benefits.

The Natural Way to Softer Skin

You can make some very dramatic improvements in the texture of your skin in the space of a couple days.

Simply remove allergenic foods, add greens to your diet, drink more water, use coconut oil internal and on your skin, and exfoliate your skin.

It won’t be long till your skin will be glowing with health.
